Preparation Each eye is treated on different days usually one week to one month apart. You will spend approximately 20 to 30 minutes in theatre. So that you know what to expect here is a step-by-step guide of what will happen as part of the procedure: - Prior to the procedure, YAG Laser Iridotomy is performed at the Vistaeyes clinic. During this brief office procedure a minute amount of laser energy creates two small passages in the upper part of the iris -the coloured part of your eye. These passages are not visible to someone looking at you, and are to allow adequate fluid flow through the eye.
- When you arrive at the day surgery facility on the day of your procedure, you will have some anaesthetic eye drops to numb your eye and a sedative to make you feel more relaxed.
- An eyelid speculum will be positioned to hold your eyelids open.
- You will be sedated and comfortable throughout the procedure, although some patients elect to have a short, light general anaesthetic.
- The ICL is surgically placed in front of your natural lens inside your eye through a 3mm incision created with a surgical diamond.
- The lens is inserted folded with a special injector and unfolds inside the eye. The lens is then positioned within the eye.
- The incision is created so that it seals on its own without the need for a suture.
After the ICL™ procedure Arrange for someone to drive you home after the procedure and spend the rest of the day relaxing at home. Avoid strenuous activities for 48 hours. - You will be given antibiotic and anti-inflammatory drops to take for a few weeks after surgery. You can expect your vision to be blurry for approximately 24 to 48 hours after your procedure, but many can see well the next day.
- You may experience some discomfort or a mild gritty sensation within the first one to three days. You are able to return to most normal activities within a few days after your procedure. However, we ask that you do not drive until you have been advised it is safe to do so. Your vision will improve and sometimes fluctuate within the first weeks as healing occurs.
- We ask that you return to Vistaeyes the following day to have your eyes checked. Routine examinations are also performed at one week, one month, three months and six months after your surgery.
