What are ICLs™?

The ICL is a type of Phakic IOL which stands for Phakic Intraocular Lens. It is a procedure where a thin lens (similar to a contact lens) is permanently inserted inside the eye in front of your natural lens and behind your iris. This procedure is often chosen more specifically for high prescriptions of short- or long-sightedness, quite often because the cornea is not thick enough to be treated with LASIK or ASLA. ICL is made from a material called Collamer, a collagen co-polymer that contains a small amount of purified collagen. It is stable and biocompatible meaning it doesn't cause a reaction inside the eye. It also contains an ultraviolet light filter.
