Astigmatism

What is Astigmatism

Astigmatism happens when the eye’s surface is curved more in one direction than the other, which causes light to focus unevenly on the retina. Instead of being shaped like a perfect sphere, the eye might be shaped more like a rugby ball. This uneven curvature can lead to blurry or distorted vision at all distances.

Astigmatism often occurs alongside short-sightedness or long-sightedness. Most people have at least a small amount of astigmatism, which may not always need treatment. If it starts to affect your vision or comfort, there are personalised options available to help correct it.
