Hyperopia
LONG-SIGHTEDNESS
What is Hyperopia (Long-Sightedness)
Hyperopia (long-sightedness) happens when the eye focuses images behind the retina instead of directly on it. This usually occurs because the eyeball is slightly too short, or the focusing parts of the eye (like the cornea or lens) aren’t strong enough. It can make close-up tasks like reading or using a phone difficult, while distance vision often stays clearer. In higher amounts, hyperopia can also affect distance vision.
Hyperopia is sometimes confused with presbyopia. Both can cause near vision problems, but presbyopia is age-related and happens when the lens becomes less flexible, usually starting in your 40s. If you think this might apply to you, visit our Presbyopia section-we can help with that too.
